Anything that resembles a Pit Bull should be either, taken off the streets altogether, or be made to wear muzzles at all times except when they're eating.
Pit Bulls are one of the four on the Dangerous Dogs List in this country and are banned, as are any dog bred with one, but it would take a vet to establish if an American Bull Dog is part Pit Bull through DNA.
I'm terrified of dogs but, for some reason, they seem to like me, so I've been trying to get over my phobia. However, if I see a Staffie, or anything that looks like one, I steer well clear.
Pit Bulls are not banned in America, but most insurance companies won't give household insurance to those that own them. Time after time we hear of them ripping people to shreds, maiming babies, and even killing some, so that's understandable.
Having said that, ALL dogs can potentially cause serious injury as they're descended from the wolf way back in time, so I think all large dogs should be muzzled in public, and I don't care how "soft" they are.

I once had a hole bitten in my calf, by a Yorkshire Terrier (of all things).
It's teeth were like razors!
I didn't half give it a kick , which sent it under my car. Was I mad!!! If it'd've come out I'd have stamped it to deee-uth!

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but this afternoon I had an encounter with one of those brutes.
I was sitting on my bench at the front of my house enjoying the sunshine, when suddenly one of those dogs came charging down my path. It was off-leash and ran past my legs. I know little about dog breeds but, after reading this thread last month I looked them up, and it was an XL.
I was terrified, as I am afraid of all dogs, but I realised it had seen my little cat and was chasing her. Luckily, my cat could have given Shergar a run for its money and she escaped, but I was still shaking like a leaf up to an hour later.
All I got from the owner was "sorry love", "sorry love". Had I been able to speak I would have given him a mouthful, but I was frozen to the spot.
We all know it's illegal to have a dog off-leash in a public place and I swear, if I ever see that creature again, I will report it to the authorities. I don't who the guy is, nor where he lives, but I'll make it my business to find out.
ALL dogs are potentially dangerous, even little Chihuahuas.

I really do hate dogs like that, for a start off they are so bloody UGLY they are deformed, and of course they are nasty, they have a nasty vicious temperament

But apparently, according to various talking heads on TV, it is a ban in name only. It seems that owners have been told they can get a dispensation to keep such dogs if they satisfy certain conditions. (muzzled when in public, etc )

True, Ena, but I was told after this event that, by law, they also had to be chipped.
They shouldn't be allowed to breed so technically they should all be neutered, be they male or female.
I may be out of line saying this, but to me, only bullies keep bully dogs as some sort of status symbol.
The Government are already making plans to place these dogs under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 along with four others and, by the end of this year, it will be illegal to own or breed these animals, and rightly so, and anyone owning them by then will be arrested for a criminal offence and may be put in jail for up to 14 years.
Information taken from extracts from "Government to Ban American XL Bullies" Gov.UK.

" by the end of this year, it will be illegal to own or breed these animals, and rightly so, and anyone owning them by then will be arrested for a criminal offence and may be put in jail for up to 14 years."
Maximum sentence for illegally keeping a Tiger is six months!
I think I'd rather fight a Bully XL than a Tiger. Should one of them ever offer me out, laaaaike!

If a dog attacks a child they should put the owner down

I like dogs and I have been a dog owner. The last dog I had was a large dog and some of my friends said that it was a wolf. I gave the dog a lot of care and attention. I also trained him well. I could take him to places with the knowledge that he would not cause any issues - and, he never did.
During the dog's lifetime, people continually said that he was a beautiful dog and complimented me on how well trained he was.
In most cases, it is the owner of the dog who is to blame.
Some people should not be allowed to own a dog.
Also, owners who train their dogs to be vicious and aggressive should be heavily fined and given a ban to stop them owning a dog.
Dogs can be an extension of the owners character and personality. Judge people for whom they are and what they can create when given the means and freedom to do so!

Said yesterday ont telly that there are 4,000 Pit Bulls in this country whose owners can legally keep them under the exemption clause, so it seems owners of Bully breed are rapidly getting their dogs registered to be exempt likewise.
I guess we must wait and see if these exempt doggies turn out to be OK, or if we find the 'exempts' go on to continue with the attacks on people (Including attacks on their owners)
